Welcome to The Tutbury Discovery Band Web Page!
If you are a relatively new player of a wind instrument : Clarinet, Saxophone, Tuba, Euphonium, Horn, Trombone, Trumpet, Flute, Oboe or Basoon, then this is the page for you. Whatever age you are, if you are uncertain about whether the Senior Band is for you, or you are a very new player, the Discovery Band may be ideal for you.
Tutbury Discovery Band rehearses at Richard Wakefield School in Tutbury on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm until 8.00pm, under the direction of Russell Wainman. With around 60 players, the Development Band is itself a complete concert band that performs regularly at local primary school summer fetes, the Mother’s Day service in the parish church as well as joining the Senior Band at the annual Christmas Concert in Burton Town Hall.
There is no real entry standard for the Discovery Band, although Associate Board Grade 1 should see the younger players at least able to cope with most of the music. As already mentioned, The Discovery Band is open to any age group, everyone is welcome! We know that many people begin playing in later life and what better place to start than a band dedicated to bringing on newer players to feed into the Senior Band. Being part of an open, friendly group of musicians does an enormous amount to bring on your playing skills at whatever level you play. It is truly great fun, so if you are ‘thinking’ about it, take the plunge and come and give it a try. I promise you, you are not likely to regret doing so.
